MuseoCity 2025: Atlas Concorde celebrates Bottoni, Cattaneo and Magistretti

27 February 2025

On the occasion of the 2025 edition of the widespread event Milano MuseoCity ‘In vetrina’, scheduled from 2 to 8 March, Atlas Concorde Studio Milano opens its doors to the exhibition conceived by Circuito Lombardo Musei Design in collaboration with Archivio Piero Bottoni, Archivio Cattaneo and Fondazione Vico Magistretti. The exhibition entitled ‘Matter, Memory, Innovation: Design Meets History is a tribute to three buildings designed by three important 20th-century architects: Cesare Cattaneo, Piero Bottoni and Vico Magistretti, with whom Atlas Concorde has associated three recent creations that best match the essence of the original project.'

The Archivio Cesare Cattaneo offers an in-depth look at the Asilo Garbagnati, a symbol of rationalism applied to children's architecture. The material and three-dimensional concrete of Boost Expression integrates perfectly with the essential forms and pure volumes of the kindergarten, reflecting its functional design vision. The collaboration with Elisa Ossino, focusing on the interaction between texture and light, recalls Cattaneo's architectural sensibility. The use of concrete in the original design and the approach to the simplicity of materials find expression in Boost Expression, capable of conveying a concrete yet refined aesthetic.

Villa Muggia, centrepiece of the Piero Bottoni Archive, is a modernist icon that combines functionality and aesthetics. With its luxurious details and strong ties to 1930s design, the villa finds a perfect parallel in the Marvel Diva collection, characterised by precious and rare marbles that enhance its sophisticated charm. These materials embody the elegance and sophistication of Villa Muggia's opulent era, while the polished or satin-finished surfaces amplify the sense of exclusivity that characterises it. Finally, the Vico Magistretti Foundation presents Casa di Via San Marco 1, an expression of the Milanese architect's innovative vision. Here, the Limestone effect of Boost Icor recalls Magistretti's design approach, which balances rationality and attention to detail. The architecture of the house plays with the relationship between solids and voids, interior and exterior, a concept reflected in the versatility of Boost Icor, capable of eliminating the distinction between indoor and outdoor spaces. Through an exclusive selection of historical documents, models and design testimonies, Atlas Concorde interprets these architectural masterpieces through its recent creations. Each work will be placed side by side with the related creation capable of expressing its aesthetic and design essence, in a dialogue between past and present.

The exhibition invites the public to reflect on how the architectural visions of important Milanese masters can reinterpret the past with new tools and technologies. An itinerary that does not merely exhibit, but intends to stimulate a profound connection between memory and innovation, material and culture. The event will be on show at Atlas Concorde Studio Milano for the entire duration of MuseoCity in Vetrina 2025.
