Impeccable beauty

01

What are the benefits of large-format porcelain tiles?

Large formats maximize the value of the graphics by creating a pleasing effect of visual uniformity that enhances the sense of space in any room. They make it possible to significantly decrease the number of joints while also facilitating maintenance, hygiene, and cleanliness.

02

What are the current design trends in terms of the use of porcelain tiles?

Large formats with natural-effect graphics that reproduce materials such as marble, stone, and wood or textures that replicate the colors and textures of concrete are quite popular. They’re ideal solutions that allow maximum freedom of expression even in the furnishing world, giving life to sinks, kitchen countertops, worktops, and tables of large or small dimensions. A wide choice of effects, colors, finishes, and formats allow for maximum customization by meeting any requirement of style or purpose.

03

Are there any tips on grouts to use to create uniform surfaces?

Large formats create a pleasing effect of visual continuity, reducing the number of joints. To achieve even more harmonious surfaces, there’s a recommended grout for each product in the Atlas Concorde range so as to make spaces uniform and further improve the appearance. As a rule, a grout in a shade that is most in harmony with the selected product’s graphics is chosen.

Production

01

How are the 120x240 and 120x278 slabs produced?

Compared to the traditional pressing of tiles in smaller sizes, where production takes place by means of machines that press tiles at a "discontinuous" rate, for large slabs the "forming" takes place by means of cylinders that exert continuous pressure. The clay layer that forms the body of the tile is spread on a conveyor belt and then compacted in the "forming" stage. The result is a long ribbon of clay pressed and cut to the desired size.

TRANSPORT

01

What should I consider for transportation and handling?

Transportation is a very delicate stage to manage. That’s why it’s important to rely on a serious and experienced partner such as Atlas Concorde. Thanks to our team of logistics engineers, we can provide safe, cost-optimized solutions tailored to different needs – from trestles that support numerous slabs vertically, suitable for long trips, to crates, suitable for smaller orders.

02

What benefits does Atlas Concorde offer in terms of logistics?

All our packaging is tested with third-party certifiers to ensure maximum safety. Our team of logistics engineers ensures economical packing and optimization when loading trucks and containers.

Installation – Laying

01

How are large formats of porcelain stoneware installed?

Installation requires a planar and stable bed of laying. To ensure an optimal result, it is important to follow the manufacturer's guidelines, particularly regarding the use of appropriate adhesives and specific laying techniques.

02

Where can I find guidelines for laying, working with, and handling large formats?

In addition to the informational videos in the training section, see the download area where you’ll find the document "Suggestions for laying, cleaning, and maintenance."

03

Where can I lay large porcelain stoneware tiles?

04

How can I cut large porcelain slabs?

Large formats are generally cut using specific tools such as cutting guides in addition to the usual equipment already used for traditional formats, such as angle grinders.

05

Can I use large-format porcelain slabs outdoors?

In general, porcelain products are suitable for outdoor applications:

  • On the ground: glued or with dry substrate, using 2 cm thick products intended for outdoor use.

  • On the wall: glued or as a ventilated facade.

However, it’s necessary to check the specific regulations in the country of installation.

06

Are there any limitations on the use of large-format porcelain slabs?

No. Large formats require care during handling and installation because of their size. However, after studying and working out the logistics with its partners, Atlas Concorde has made this task accessible to all. In general, we still recommend checking:

  • Compatibility with the floor or wall, so that it is smooth, clean, and flat.

  • That there’s enough space on the site to allow the slabs to be moved.

  • Any cuts needed: the slabs cannot be cut to sharp angles of less than 90 degrees.

  • The installation technique: double buttering, applying the adhesive to both the back of the slab and the floor/wall that will serve as the installation bed.

For a complete, detailed summary, see our informational videos available in the "training” section. In addition, it’s a good idea to check that the installers are properly trained for this type of product.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

01

How can I clean Atlas Concorde porcelain stoneware?

The work site is considered finished when it is cleared of any tools/materials used for the job. After a few days you’ll need to perform end-of-site cleaning with a readily available commercial sponge such as Scotch-Brite® or with a mop or single disc floor machine for large areas. For walls, use a neutral detergent diluted in warm water. For floors, use an acidic detergent with buffering action. Then rinse thoroughly with clean warm water until any haloing or residue in the crevices is removed. Avoid using diluted hardware acids.

02

What does routine maintenance involve?

For daily cleaning and maintenance, the use of a common neutral detergent diluted in water is recommended. Avoid the use of acidic, alkaline, waxing, and/or impregnating agents and steel wool. For heavier soiling or particularly textured surfaces, use an alkaline-based detergent, rinsing after washing is complete.

SUSTAINABILITY

01

What design benefits do Atlas Concorde's large-format slabs address in terms of sustainability?

Large-format porcelain slabs from Atlas Concorde have GREENGUARD Gold certification, which means that the surfaces comply with standards on the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in indoor spaces. Originating in the United States, the certification is recognized by numerous international building programs such as LEED and BREEAM, as UL GREENGUARD Gold certified products contribute to making indoor air clean and healthy.

Atlas Concorde communicates the composition of its large formats through the Declare label, created by the International Living Future Institute (ILFI) for building products. It lists all intentionally added ingredients and residues with a weight of 100 ppm (0.01%) or more in the final product. This can be used to meet the requirements of green building standards (Leed, Well, Breeam etc.).
